Today’s belt bags aren’t the ones your parents wore to Disney World in the 1980s: Now, “the accessory formerly known as the fanny pack” has gotten a full makeover, says stylist Melissa Dunne, as designers from Rebecca Minkoff to Louis Vuitton rework the look using leather, fabric, and eye-catching details. The best way to wear them? Dunne suggests putting the bag off to one side of your body through your belt loops or over a sweater dress so you’ll never risk ruining your favorite bag on the floor of the stadium again. Even better: Many are just small enough to meet the NFL bag requirements, making them ideal for game days when you need to carry the essentials while keeping your hands free. “You can drink your beer, eat your hot dog, jump up to cheer, and not spill anything,” says Dunne. “It’s perfect for the sports fan.”
